About Ephesus Baptist Church

Ephesus Baptist Church is a friendly and loving congregation of believers that have a rich history in missions and hold a special place in the hearts of those in the White Hill Community. We are located on the southwestern edge of Lee County, N.C. We are
situated about halfway between the towns of Sanford and Carthage, and our general area is known for its hospitality, recreation, golf courses, and access to exceptional medical facilities.

Our church was formed on September 26, 1886, when a small group of baptized Southern Baptist believers met at Caviness Crossroads in what was then Moore County, N.C., to organize. They adopted articles of Faith and a Church Covenant. The seventeen founding members came from Craines Creek, Green Springs, Jonesboro, and Gulf.

For a few years, the church people met in the Masonic Lodge at Caviness Crossroads (now called White Hill). One Sunday, when they arrived, the building was locked, and so the decision was made to build their own church building. The center portion of our
present church building is the original house of worship. The finished building was dedicated on March 24, 1889.

Throughout the ensuing years, several additions have been made to the original building, and many improvements have been made. Ephesus has always been mission-minded, and that remains true to this day. Over the years, we have grown and evolved,
adapting to the changing needs of our congregation, community, and our world.  However, our core values, love for each other, and our commitment to spreading God’s love and message remain steadfast.
